Reasons for Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction is always a last resort when no other restorative options are viable. Common reasons for tooth extraction include:

• Severe decay that renders a tooth irreparable
• Advanced gum disease (periodontitis) that has loosened teeth
• Root fractures leading to severe infectionLarge cysts that compromise bone support
• Overcrowding that necessitates tooth removal (e.g., for orthodontic treatment)
• Wisdom teeth that risk causing future dental issues

Pain-Free Extraction Our primary concern is your comfort, and all extractions are performed under local anesthesia to ensure a painless experience. We verify your numbness level before starting, and you can request pauses as needed. Should you feel any discomfort, please notify us immediately.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction: Is it Necessary? Wisdom teeth may require extraction if they cause discomfort, grow at an angle, or if there is insufficient space. These teeth are located at the back of the mouth, where cleaning is more challenging, increasing the risk of decay and gum issues. If you’re experiencing wisdom tooth pain, extraction is often recommended.

Types of Extractions

Simple Extraction (Uncomplicated)
For straightforward cases, teeth are carefully loosened and removed using special instruments. This is often used for single-rooted teeth, such as front teeth or upper wisdom teeth.

Surgical Extraction (Complicated) In cases where teeth are impacted, decayed, or have curved roots, a surgical approach may be necessary. This involves moving the gum tissue aside, removing any obstructing bone, and carefully sectioning the tooth for easier removal. Most surgical extractions, including lower wisdom teeth, are completed with minor incisions and sutures.

Post-Extraction Care

Immediately after extraction, follow these guidelines:
• Remove the gauze pack after 30 minutes.
• Take prescribed pain relievers as directed, with minimal water.
• Avoid eating, drinking, spitting, or rinsing your mouth for three hours.
• Refrain from smoking, alcohol, or strenuous activities for the first 24 hours.
• Consume only soft, cold foods, and avoid excessive physical activity on the day of extraction.

What is Alveolitis ("Dry Socket")?

If the blood clot dislodges after extraction, you may develop a dry socket, leading to pain due to exposed bone. Contact us if your discomfort intensifies after a few days. We can provide a medicated dressing to relieve pain effectively.

Aftercare Tips To ensure optimal healing, practice good oral hygiene by brushing your teeth gently around the extraction site. Avoid touching the area, eating hard foods, or using tobacco and alcohol, as these can delay healing and increase discomfort.
